General Facts about Miami

Miami is the only major US city founded by a woman, Julia Tuttle, in 1896. Known as the "Magic City," Miami is the second-most populous metropolis in the southeastern United States and a major center for finance, commerce, culture, and international trade.

The city enjoys a tropical monsoon climate with an average annual temperature of 77°F (25°C) and over 248 days of sunshine per year. Miami Beach is home to the largest collection of Art Deco architecture in the world, with over 800 historic buildings in the famous South Beach district.

Greater Miami is incredibly diverse - over 60% of the population speaks Spanish, and the city serves as a cultural bridge between the United States, Latin America, and the Caribbean. It is also home to the Everglades, the only subtropical wilderness preserve in North America, spanning 1.5 million acres of wetlands.
